1000mg Gummies: How Much Should You Eat?
October 2, 2026

A 1000mg THC gummy is one of the strongest edibles you can buy. It's meant for experienced consumers with a high tolerance, and even for them it's many servings, not one. If you've got a 1000mg gummy in front of you, here's how to work out how much to eat.
How strong is 1000mg?
Health Canada suggests new users start with 2.5mg of THC or less, and many regular edible users take somewhere around 10 to 20mg. A single 1000mg gummy holds 100 servings of 10mg. Eating the whole thing at once is far beyond what almost anyone should take.
Cutting a 1000mg gummy into pieces
Use a sharp knife on a clean cutting board, and cut the gummy into even pieces. Each halving halves the dose:
- Half a gummy: 500mg
- A quarter: 250mg
- An eighth: 125mg
- A sixteenth: about 62mg
Even a sixteenth is a strong dose for most people. For a 10 to 20mg piece you need to cut the gummy into roughly 50 to 100 small pieces, which is hard to do evenly. THC may also not be spread perfectly evenly through a gummy, so small pieces can vary.
Who 1000mg gummies are for
High-dose gummies like the Treat Leaf 1000mg candy bag and the 1000mg 10-pack suit experienced consumers who already know their tolerance and are comfortable cutting their own portions. They're good value per milligram, but only if you dose them carefully.
If you want a smaller dose, buy a smaller gummy
If you're aiming for 5 to 40mg, it's far easier to buy a gummy made at that strength than to carve up a 1000mg one. Our 5mg microdose gummies and 40mg 3-packs are measured for you, and the whole edibles collection lists THC per gummy and per pack.
Take it slow
Whatever size piece you take, wait at least two hours before taking more, since edibles can take that long to kick in. Read our guide to how long edibles take to kick in for why. Wrap the rest of the gummy, label it, and keep it out of reach of children and pets. Edibles are for adults 19 and over.
